MDP elects new parliamentary group leader

Henveiru Central MP Ali Azim, on Tuesday, was unanimously elected as the leader of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s Parliamentary Group.

Henveiru South MP Hussain Shaheem and Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb were elected deputy leaders in Tuesday's Parliamentary Group elections. Alifushi MP Mohamed Rasheed secured the position of Secretary-General.

Only a single member contested for all available positions on the leading coalition party's PG group.

All the aforementioned members except MP Shaheem were unanimously elected to their positions by 57 members. Three members voted against MP Shaheem.

MDP, the leading party of the ruling coaliton, currently holds a 65-member majority in the parliament.
