Dr Shrutika Kankariya, ophthalmologist that treated convicted ex-Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor between June 18- 24 while on his medical furlough to India, on Friday advised him to return in six months for further consultations.
Adeeb was being treated for case of glaucoma at Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune, India.
He was diagnosed with the condition in 2017 while under imprisonment over his alleged involvement in Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) graft scandal and in the blast aboard the presidential speedboat in 2015 in a plot to assassinate former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Adeeb was accompanied by his wife Mariyam Nashwa on the medical trip on June 14 with his return previously set to be on June 26.
However, Maldives Correctional Service later extended their permit for his medical furlough until July 6, in compliance with requests from Adeeb's family upon doctors advice.
Ministry of Home Affairs prior stated Adeeb was sent to India under circumstances that guarantee he would not be able to escape. The Ministry further divulged that he would be escorted at all times by three Maldives Police Service officers and three correctional service officers.
