Vice President Faisal Naseem, on Wednesday, attended an event organised to celebrate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The event held at Dhoonidhoo, Kaafu Atoll, was organised by Maldives Police Service.
Also in attendance were Minister of Home Affairs Abdulla Imran and Police Commissioner Abdulla Hameed.
The vice president witnessed the disposal of narcotics seized in 13,165 cases between January 2014 and June 2019.
According to the Police, drugs confiscated during major cases were also destroyed on Wednesday, including 149 kilograms of drugs found buried in the uninhabited island of Hulhuvarulaa, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, as well as 50 kilograms of drugs found aboard an Iranian vessel last May.
Over 37 Maldivians, including minors, were arrested in special drug operations conducted earlier this year.
