The government on Thursday appointed a new Permanent Secretary (PS) to the Ministry of Education, following the termination of the predecessor.
The former secretary general of Elections Commission, Ahmed Ali, was appointed to the post by Education Minister Dr Aishath Ali.
The former PS, Mohamed Saeed, was sacked last April. He was accused of participating in activities of the presidential election at the presidential palace during official working hours, of disseminating personal information of employees who work in education, and of failing to verify documents to dismiss two staff in the education sector.
Saeed has refuted the accusations, called his sacking unjust and expressed his intention to file a lawsuit.
