President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Saturday declared to present the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi with the Order of the distinguished rule of Izzudeen.

The ceremony for this event will take place on Saturday evening at the President's Office, as part of the Prime Minister's state visit to be made to Maldives.

According to President's Office, PM Modi is being presented with the title in recognition of the many services he has performed to strengthen the longstanding relationship between India and Maldives.

Moreover, the notable assistance that the Indian government has continued to provide the Maldives under the Prime Minister’s stewardship is a factor earning him the title as well.

PM Modi is scheduled to hold official talks with President Solih and sign MoUs during his time in Maldives. The Prime Minister will also attend a parliament sitting and deliver his special address before participating in a banquet hosted by the president and first lady.

Before he departs early Sunday, PM Modi will call on various top government officials and politicians, including Vice President Faisal Naseem, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla, and Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim.

The bilateral ties between Maldives and India saw improvement with the inauguration of President Solih into office in 2018. President Solih's first official state visit was made to India, and various agreements have been signed between the two countries including a USD 1.4 billion credit facility.
