Maldives Police Service on Sunday arrested 37 people after raids on two houses in capital Male' City that were being operated as drug hubs in large scale selling and sheltering of illicit substances.
Police said that the operation on Pelican house in Galolhu ward resulted in the arrest of 11 male locals between the ages of 19 - 42, a female aged 21 and two boys at the age of 17.
Furthermore, Police revealed that the raid on Memory Vila in the same ward led to the arrest of 24 local males between the ages 19 - 42.
Police stated that the detention of all involved other than the two juveniles was extended by three days. The two 17-year-olds were placed under house arrest.
Moreover, Police uncovered 81 sealed packets of drugs in their search of the two houses.
Police revealed that the two houses had electronic and mechanical lock systems to prevent the officers from entering. They further stated that the two houses also had systems to allow drug usage in addition to the sale of the substances.
Women and children were participating in the drug hubs as well, Police added.
