The new Resident Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to Maldives, Kawasaki Mitsuyoshi, called on Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid on Sunday.
During the meeting held at the Foreign Ministry, Minister Shahid extended his congratulations to Mitsuyoshi on being appointed to the JICA Maldives Office.
Moreover, the minister underscored the special relations between Maldives and Japan, highlighting JICA’s generous support towards the socio-economic development of the Maldives.
He also noted that Maldives began receiving aid from the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) as early as 1982, well before the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
He assured his full support to the resident representive, and for the continued cooperation to JICA.
Assistant Director at the Foreign Ministry Zeena Mohamed Didi, and Desk Officer Shafraz Rasheed accompanied Minister Shahid during the meeting.
