UNDP Resident Rep Fujii presents letter of appointment

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)'s Resident Representative Akiko Fujii, on Monday, presented her letter of appointment to Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.

The minister congratulated Akiko on her appointment and welcomed her to the Maldives. He also guaranteed that the government would offer full cooperation to the UNDP Representative and work closely with her during the execution of her duties.

Additionally, the minister expressed appreciation for the UN's role in human development, including areas such as poverty eradication, climate and disaster risk resilience as well as democracy and governance. Minister Shahid also expressed gratitude for UN contributions to the overall development process of Maldives.

In response, the UNDP Representative thanked the Foreign Minister for the trust placed in her and the UN system by the administration.

Furthermore, the minister and Fujii discussed ways to further strengthen collaboration between the government and UN in order to facilitate the implementation of the state's development agenda.

The minister was accompanied by Ambassador-at-large Asim Ahmed and Director Mariyam Reesha. Fujii was accompanied by UNDP Assistant Resident Representative Mariyam Nazra and Communications Officer of UNDP Makhdhooma Nazim.
