Remand extended for man arrested in drug case

Criminal Court on Thursday extended the detention period of one of the people arrested in relation to the buried 149 kilograms of drugs uncovered in an uninhabited island in Gaafu Dhaal Atoll, Hulhuvaarulaa.

Gadhdhoo court ordered that four out of the five arrested in the 72-hour long police operation be detained until the end of their court case.

Included amongst those arrested is a man whose life sentence on drug charges was commuted by former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom during his administration.

According to the Police, street value of the drugs seized is approximately MVR 260 million.
