UN Resident Coordinator for Maldives and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Representative Shoko Noda, on Sunday, paid a farewell call on Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.
During the meeting, Minister Shahid expressed gratitude for Noda's outstanding services during her four-year tenure. He particularly highlighted her constructive and balanced engagement with both the government and the political opposition.
Noda congratulated Minister Shahid on the administration's commitment to fulfilling its human rights obligations and stated that she felt a sense of achievement and hope for Maldives. She also thanked the government and the Maldivian people for their warm hospitality.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs was accompanied by Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, Ambassador-at-large Dr Asim Ahmed, Additional Secretary Javed Faizal and Director Maryam Reesha. Noda was accompanied by Head of UN Resident Coordinator’s Office Huda Adam and UNDP's Assistant Resident Representative of Democratic Governance and Peacebuilding Aishath Rizna.
Shoko also paid farewell calls on Vice President Ibrahim Faisal, Speaker of Parliament Qasim Ibrahim, MP Faris Maumoon, Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla and top officials from the Elections Commission (EC) as the conclusion of her tenure approaches.
Shoko Noda took office as Resident Representative to the Maldives on October 19, 2014, and championed causes such as human rights, gender equality, and environmental preservation. Noda is scheduled to leave her post on April 30, 2019.
