MET warns tidal wave surges in Central and Southern Atolls

Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) on Sunday issued the white alert to all atolls except Haa Alif, notifying that Central and Southern Atolls may face tidal wave surges.

MET revealed on social media that between 1300- 1630 hours rough seas and high tides resulting in surges are forecasted starting from Kaafu Atoll to Addu Atoll, and that heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gust winds of 40 miles per hour are expected from Haa Dhaalu Atoll to Vaavu Atoll and from Gaafu Alif Atoll to Addu City.

Heavy monsoon rain is occurring in certain atolls across Maldives recently, with thunderstorms, scattered rain, and gust winds experienced throughout the country.

Recently, floods damaged five houses in Ukulhas, Alif Alif Atoll amidst heavy monsoon showers, and a furthermore a tornado occurred in Fonadhoo, Laamu Atoll rendering six houses inhospitable.
