One of two men who fled the scene, after a gang of four attempted to rape a woman on Thursday, was arrested by Police on Saturday under a court order.

Police stated that the 33-year-old man was found in capital Male’.

The search for the second 'escaped' assailant is currently underway.

Four men were involved in the gang rape attempt, in a guesthouse situated in Maafannu ward, on Thursday night. While the police arrested two on the scene, the Criminal Court freed one man, aged 32, and extended the detention of the other, a 33-year old, by five days.

Police reported that officers patrolling the area heard the screams of a woman residing at the guesthouse and went to investigate the matter.

Once the police arrived, two of the four men escaped and one of the men was caught in the guesthouse, while the other was captured on the streets.

Glasses and a bottle containing liquor were found in the room upon further investigation.
