Aasandha Company Ltd has announced today that the company is working on making the necessary arrangements to send Maldivians to Thailand and United Arab Emirates (UAE) for medical treatment under the national health insurance scheme, Aasandha as per the decision of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Since the company's initial comments in January about the arrangement in which it was revealed that stakeholder meetings were being held, a press conference was held by the Ministry of Social and Family Development today where further details were revealed.

Speaking at the event, CEO of Aasandha Aminath Zeeniya said that efforts are underway to make the arrangements and that as per President Muizzu's policy, the company is also exploring other avenues without solely depending on India and Sri Lanka for medical services.

"The idea is to identify places which offer better services than [we receive] now from countries that Maldivians frequently travel to, and send [patients] there," she said.

President Dr Muizzu previously said that he does not want to make the free health care system sponsored by the government available only from medical facilities based in countries located in "a specific region", and that he would expand Aasandha services to countries with better facilities as well.
