Maldives National Party (MNP) Candidate for the Kurendhoo constituency in the upcoming Parliamentary Elections, Mohamed Yoosuf (Maya), has decided to step back and instead endorse Independent Candidate Abdul Ghani Abdul Hakeem.

Ghani is also the incumbent MP for the same constituency. Elected as a member of Maldivian Democratic Party, he switched parties and joined ruling People's National Congress (PNC) fairly recently.

Despite having joined PNC, Ghani is officially contesting in the April 21 election as an independent candidate.

Yoosuf, however, stated on social media that his decision to endorse Ghani is based on his conviction that this would be the wisest path to take to ensure President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's pledges are fulfilled and the constituency receives the utmost benefits and development.

He called on all his supporters to vote for Ghani instead.
