MET issues Orange Alert for strong winds

Maldives Meteorology Service (MET) has issued Orange Alert for strong winds from Noonu Atoll to Dhaalu Atoll.

This warning will be in effect until 12:30 pm. They have forecasted strong winds of 34-40 mph with gust winds of 55 mph. MET has also forecasted rough seas and have cautioned for travelers.

Earlier on Sunday they issued a Yellow Alert as well.

MET Maldives issues Orange Alert

MET forecasts heavy rain and strong winds accompanied by rough seas for the next 36 hours. According to their forecasts, the weather won't improve by Wednesday.

While they have predicted possibly lower rainfall on Monday, they said it is expected there would still be strong winds.

Safari boat sinks, caution issued to sea travellers

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said a safari boat Handy Cruiser has sunk in the Kaafu Thilafushi area earlier on Sunday morning.

MNDF said they received report of this incident shortly after 8:30 am and they were currently aiding everyone on the vessel. A total of 17 passengers were on it.
