MWSC signs MVR 282 million contract to upgrade Addu water system

Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has signed a contract on Saturday to upgrade the water system in Addu atoll.

The contract was signed at a ceremony held at MWSC yesterday by State Minister for Construction and Infrastructure Ibrahim Thoam Mohamed and MWSC Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed.

The contract, of MVR 282 million, conditions completion of the projects within one year and includes the construction of an RO facility building in Hithadhoo, drilling boreholes, and establishing two RO plants that can produce 1500 tonnes of drinking water daily. Additionally, 3 tanks of 200 tonnes capacity and 3 tanks of 100 tonnes capacity will also be placed for water storage.

In Hulhumeedhoo, the project includes the construction of an RO facility building, borehole drilling, establishment of two RO plants that can produce 35o tonnes of drinking water daily and placing three tanks of 1000 tonnes capacity for water storage.

In Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo, facilities and resources will be provided to conduct water analysis.

A total of four water storage tanks of 1000 tonnes capacity each will be placed in Maradhoo, MaradhooFeydhoo and Feydhoo.

The contract also includes the provision of training programs necessary to maintain the water systems in these islands and to provide spares.
