Following discussions with the Maldives National Party (MNP) yesterday to explore possibilities of collaboration for the upcoming presidential election, Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim, MNP leader Mohamed Nazim, and former President Mohamed Nasheed are scheduled to meet today.

The meeting between the political leaders is set to take place at the Jumhooree Party office in Malé. The agenda of the meeting is yet to be announced.

MNP's presidential candidate Nazim, Vice President Abdullah Riyaz, and spokesperson Ahmed Usham met with Qasim at Sun Island Resort upon his request on Tuesday.

"The talks were very successful and have given us hope. We will continue to move forward and share the details of the meeting with the public," Qasim said following the meeting with MNP.

Usham stated that the purpose of the meeting with Qasim was to discuss the potential collaboration between the two parties for both the upcoming presidential election and the parliamentary elections 2024.

"We believe that we will be able to find the right formula for the two parties to collaborate in the upcoming presidential election. We will continue these discussions in the future," Usham said.

Qasim, Nazim, and Nasheed are speculated to be collaborating for the upcoming presidential election. However, the discussions between Jumhooree Party (JP) and Nasheed were ceased due to disagreements regarding Nasheed's proposal to implement a parliamentary system in the Maldives. Additionally, at the time, Nasheed's "Fikurrege Dhirun" movement did not have the status of a political party, which also played a role in the talks coming to a halt.

Nasheed's close associates have established a new political party called The Democrats, and Nasheed officially joined the party last week.
