Tourist arrivals to the Maldives increase by 31 percent in July 2022, reports Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
Central bank in its economic update, also reported a 26 percent increment in tourist bed-nights during the review month.
Moreover, tourist arrivals and bed-nights exceeded pre-pandemic levels of July 2019 as well. Bed-nights increased by 24 percent when compared with the corresponding month in 2019.
Tourist arrivals observed a marginal increment in the review month compared to the pre-pandemic levels in July 2019.
The annual increase in tourist arrivals mainly reflected in the surge in arrivals from main source markets of Europe and India, reports MMA. During the review month, Russia, India, UK, Germany and the United States were among the strongest source markets.
Moreover, Russian arrivals has almost reached pre-war levels, falling short by 2 percent.
Operational bed capacity of the tourism industry observed an increase of 9,431 beds in annual terms. Bed-nights rose by 41 percent compared to the pre-pandemic levels of 2019 in annual terms.
