Indian Embassy, Higher Education Min host conference

The Indian Embassy and the Ministry of Higher Education, on Tuesday, jointly hosted a conference at Hotel Jen in the capital city of Male', concerning study opportunities for Maldivian students in Kerala, India.

The conference was attended by ministers of state, deputy ministers, officials from both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education as well as principals and students of schools in greater Male'.

Indian representation at the conference consisted of a high-level delegation which included members from the Keralan Higher Education Ministry, APJ Abdul Kalam University, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Community Skill Park led by Keralan Minister for Higher Education and Minority Welfare K T Jaleel.

During his address, Ambassador of India Sunjay Sudhir expressed the necessity of greater governmental collaboration Kerala and Maldives, highlighting existing people to people contact.

The Indian delegation conveyed information regarding affordable opportunities for higher education in Kerala and conducted an interactive question and answer session.

Over the course of their visit, the Keralan delegation paid a courtesy call on Minister of Higher Education Dr Ibrahim Hassan and state ministers from the Ministry of Education. During the meeting, Minister Hassan expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with the Keralan government in the area of higher education.

Additionally, the delegation also conducted meetings with the Maldives National University (MNU), Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), Maldives Polytechnic, Technical and Vocational Education Training Authority (TVET), Villa College and Maldives Institute of Technology as well as Training and Vocational Education Centre (TVEC).

Discussions centred on possibilities of collaboration between institutes in Kerala and Maldives on resource sharing, conducting research and development as well as exchange programmes. Training opportunities for Maldivian students in tourism, hospitality, STEM, arts, sports administration, management and paramedical sciences.
