Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on Tuesday awarded the reclamation and harbour development project of Felivaru, Lhaviyani Atoll, valued at MVR 113.39 million, to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The agreement was signed by the ministry’s Director General Fathimath Shana Farooq and MTCC’s CEO Adam Azim, with Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Zaha Waheed in attendance.

The project aims to expand cold storage facilities along with a docking harbour on Felivaru.

It entails dredging and reclaiming an area of 179,780.40 cubic metres, and construction of a 218.9 metre rock boulder breakwater, 574.6 metre of sheet pile, and 264.8 metre of rock boulder revetment, as well as the installation of 2,466 square metres of pavement.

Per the agreement, MTCC has a period of one year to complete the project.

Felivaru is an industrial island home to one of the biggest tuna canning facilities in Maldives, owned and operated by the government.
