Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim said yesterday that efforts are underway to draft a law to protect the national flag and emblem of Maldives.

Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office, Minister Naseer highlighted the absence of regulations governing the use of the state emblem, and emphasized the need for legal protection for both the emblem and the national flag.

"The government intends to pass a law to address this issue," Naseer said, in response to questions about preventing disrespect towards the national flag.

He added that the bill will encompass all aspects of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's policy to uphold and protect the national flag and the dignity of the state emblem.

President Muizzu, in his inaugural address, decided to keep the Maldivian national flag hoisted 24 hours a day, a change from the previous practice of raising the flag at 06:00 hrs and lowering it at 18:00 hrs everyday. This change includes raising the flag at government office buildings, ministerial residences, and on state vehicles.

The government's move aims to revive the tradition of flag hoisting, enhance the flag's prominence, and foster a sense of nationalism and patriotism among the people.

Additionally, a special college dedicated to researching Maldivian nationalism, 'Dhivehi Gaumiyyathuge Isvaaru,' was established earlier this month to expand these goals.

The college will research five main areas including Dhivehi Language, Maldivian History, Maldivian Heritage, Maldivian Data, and Maldivian Arts.
