Maldives and Japan signed an Exchange of Notes regarding Japan's donation of MVR 15 million in aid for scholarships to Maldivian students
The Japanese government under the Japanese Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) has provided MVR 15 million (approximately USD 1.02 million) in aid to the Maldives today for the continuation of scholarships opportunities to be offered by the Government of Japan for the fiscal year 2024.
The Exchange of Notes was signed today by Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer and the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Ms. Takeuchi Midori in a special ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the grant will provide an additional six scholarships this year to the Maldivian students, a project which was implemented in August 2020, by the Government of Japan for further promoting the Human Resource Development in the Maldives. These scholarship include masters degree programme opportunities from the most prestigious universities of Japan.
According to the Foreign Ministry, these scholarships would provide the opportunity for students to become individuals who are involved in the formulation and implementation of social and economic development policies in the future and play a vital role in the rebuilding the country.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development Dr. Maryam Mariya and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Ministry of Finance, Civil Service Commission, the Embassy of Japan, and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
