Although tourism resorts have been operating in the Maldives for 50 years, Haa Dhaalu Atoll stands as the only atoll with a single resort till now. Soneva, renowned for operating eco-friendly and sustainable luxury resorts in the Maldives, has opened a new resort in Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

The resort, named 'Soneva Secret', boasts 14 beaches and water villas. This resort will also prioritize sustainability, aligning with other resorts under the Soneva umbrella.

Soneva Secret was developed in Dhipparafushi, situated in the expansive lagoon of Makunudhoo, distinct from the Atoll. Developed by Soneva in Dhipparafushi, the island where the people of the westernmost island of Maldives, Makunudhoo, used to picnic, the resort is considered to offer ultimate privacy.

Currently, only Hondaafushi Island Resort operates in the atoll. A dedicated campaign has also been launched to boost tourism in the area. Residents of the atoll have long been concerned about the lack of economic benefits from tourism.

In addition to Hondaafushi, some islands were permitted to build resorts several years ago, but progress on these projects has stalled. The current government has pledged efforts to resume these projects and open more resorts in the atoll.

Soneva Secret, opened as the second resort in the atoll, offers six types of villas. The most memorable are the Crusoe Villa and the Castaway Villa, each designed to showcase the beauty of the white sand beaches and the pristine seas. The villas feature master suites and sunroofs, with ample space for families or additional guests.

From Velana International Airport, the island can be reached via seaplane within 75 minutes. It's a 40-minute seaplane journey from Soneva Fushi in Baa Atoll. Tourists can also travel directly to H.Dh. Kulhudhuffushi Airport and reach the resort via an hour-long speed boat journey, or a 20-minute speed boat ride from Makunudhoo.

Soneva, with a focus on minimal environmental impact, implements innovative practices. The resort plans to install a state-of-the-art floating solar PV system with a capacity of 1.6 MW and a 3 MW battery by the end of this year.
