In the 13th Asian Netball Championships that began in Bangalore, India yesterday, Maldives has won its first match with a big difference against Saudi Arabia.
Maldives won against Saudi Arabia, who are playing in the tournament for the first time, with 14-74 points.
Saudi Arabia formed a National Netball Committee in 2021. Their target is to make significant headway in the sport by 2030.
Total 14 teams are participating in this year's Asian Netball Championships, which will be played through October 27. The teams are split into two groups. Maldives, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Philippines, India and Japan make up Group A.
Group B includes Singapore, Hong Kong, Brunei, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Iraq and Bahrain.
Maldives' second match in the group stage is set for tomorrow, where they will play against Malaysia. On Monday, Maldives will play against India, with Tuesday seeing a match against Philippines. On Wednesday ,the team will face off against Nepal, and the group stage's last game on Friday will be between Maldives and Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka has won the championship six times now. Singapore won it three times, with Malaysia having won twice. Hong Kong also won once.
