Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof revealed that he had offered assistance to football clubs under the government's umbrella if there were changes in the leadership of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM). However, despite initiating efforts for a vote of no confidence in FAM's leadership, the clubs declined the proposition.

During the early stages of the government, Mahloof led clubs in calling for a congress to vote against FAM's leadership. In an interview with Mihaaru for 'Medhusofha,' Mahloof explained that he had engaged in discussions with the clubs, suggesting that collaboration could lead to various forms of government support. However, the clubs opted against this approach.

Facing criticism for his involvement, Mahloof highlighted that his individual efforts garnered sufficient signatures for the no-confidence vote. Yet, when FIFA committee members visited the Maldives and met with the clubs, some claimed they hadn't signed, prompting Mahloof to halt his efforts to prevent the suspension of Maldives' football.

Mahloof emphasized his commitment to not let the country's football suspension be attributed to him, expressing readiness to follow the President's directive even if the suspension occurred.

In an interview, Mahloof argued against the fairness of state-run companies solely providing MVR 3 million to football clubs. He advocated for equal support to volleyball and basketball clubs, emphasizing the extensive investment he made in football through field construction across various islands during his tenure.

Highlighting the transformation of neglected football fields into turfed spaces in over 50 islands under his ministry, Mahloof asserted his dedication to football development, anticipating acknowledgment of his contributions in the coming years.
