The government launched 'Mageyhiyaavahi' online portal for social housing scheme applications on Monday, at State Electric Company Limited.
The portal developed by National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT), was inaugurated by Minister of Housing and Urban Development Aminath Athifa.
The government launched the portal on the website vehi.egov.mv, as part of President Mohamed Solih’s '100-day' pledges to abolish the need for queues when applying for social housing.
Following the ceremony, the State Minister of Communication, Science and Technology, Ali Solih, assured that the website will not crash despite heavy traffic, as the portal is hosted on the government’s network.
The online portal is also planned to be developed further and will eventually display the scorings of individuals who apply for housing.
Currently, there are no active housing schemes.
Interested individuals may register at the portal by creating an 'e-Faas' account, which is required to apply for online government services such as 'Mageyvehi'.
Department of National Registration will provide the information to the portal once individuals register for the 'e-Faas'.
NCIT has also put together a special development team for the portal.
State Minister for Housing Ahmed Nasheed declared that relevant documents must be submitted although the application process is digitised.
Formerly, thousands of people queued up to submit flat applications at the Housing Ministry and was shrouded in controversy during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's tenure. With the introduction of the portal, forms can now be submitted from anywhere in the world.
