Maldives has ranked first in the south asian regional futsal ranking announced by FIFA for the first time and has secured the 110th rank world-wide out of 139 countries despite lacking any resources to advance the sport.
Maldives has been listed first place among South Asian countries in the futsal rankings announced for the first time by Fédération Internationale De Football Association (FIFA).
The South Asian countries that had managed to secure a rank in the list were Maldives, India and Nepal. Despite lacking any resources to advance the sport, Maldives has been ranked 110 world-wide.
Nepal has been listed in the 121st place amongst a total of 139 countries and India has been ranked 135th.
FIFA has determined futsal as an indoor game. While futsal remains a low priority among countries in southern Asian, most Asian countries tend to invest most of their efforts in football. Regardless of the lack of any futsal facilities, the country with the loudest futsal spirit is Maldives.
However, Maldives had slipped in the rankings for Women's Futsal. The only South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) country that managed to secure a spot in this ranking is Bangladesh, placed in the 44th rank.
The strongest global football powerhouse, Brazil, had unsurprisingly achieved first place in the both the male and female ranking.
