The Maldives lost to Sri Lanka in their second match of the CAVA Women’s U20 Championship, currently taking place at the indoor court of the Social Centre in Malé City. The Maldives were defeated in three straight sets.
Maldives has faced defeat against Sri Lanka during its second match of the CAVA Women’s U20 Championship currently ongoing at the Social Centre located in Maldives capital, Male' City.
Sri Lanka won against the Maldives in their match after securing three straight sets with scores of 25-8, 25-9, and 25-16.
Maldives also lost their first match of the Championships against Kyrgyzstan without securing a single set. However, their performance improved in the last set of this match. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka defeated Nepal in their first match with a score of 3-1.
The Maldives' team is the youngest to compete in the tournament, with the squad's average age being 17 years. The most experienced player on the team is Maya Hussain Solah, who has been a member of the senior team since 2023.
Although Kyrgyzstan won their match on Friday night with three sets, Nepal put up a strong fight, with the match ending with scores of 27-25, 25-23, and 25-17.
The last game of the tournament's league round, which consists of four contending teams took place on Saturday. Nepal had met Maldives at 16:00 hrs last evening and Kyrgyzstan faced off against Sri Lanka at 21:00 hrs last night.
The four teams will also compete in the semi-finals scheduled to begin on Monday. The first match of the semi-finals will see the first and second place winners of the league round clashing for the win, while the third and fourth ranking teams will meet in the second match. The two teams that win the semi-finals will compete for the championship title on Tuesday, while the losing teams will face off on the same day to determine the third-place team of the championship.
