National Volleyball Team was prevented from leaving Maldives on Tuesday for the Central Zone Tournament as some of the team members were direct contacts of Covid positive patients.
The team found out they would be unable to fly after they had arrived at Velana International Airport to leave to Bangladesh, where the tournament would be held until December 29.
Even though the National Men’s Volleyball Team could not leave, the Women’s Team were able to fly for the competition. The women’s competitions for the Central Zone were also being held in Bangladesh.
As this tournament was being resumed after being halted for over two years, the Maldivian teams had undergone intense training to prepare for the tournament. Various friendly matches were held with volleyball teams of the region.
Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka were going to play in the tournament against Maldives for the first time this year in the Central Zone Tournament. Nepal and Bangladesh had played against Maldives in previous competitions.
