Chief Spokesperson of the President’s Office, Heena Waleed, stated today that President Muizzu’s recent decisions to replace certain high-level government officials are aimed at improving the management of those agencies.

In a press conference held today by the President’s Office, a member of the press raised the question about the recent dismissal and resignation of state-owned-enterprises (SOE)s, to which Heena said that the president has always used the powers vested in him to appoint and change individuals in SOEs and ministries in ways that facilitate the smooth operation of the government.

The recent changes are also in line with these goals, said Heena.

"...As such, the president will also do what is necessary for him to make government operation easier or to further strengthen and improve such matters. That is the answer to the question," said Heena. The press’s question came at a time when President Dr Muizzu dismissed Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Fathmath Thaufeeq (Kudi), just one day after the SOE’s Chairperson Aisha Nurain Janah resigned.

The president also dismissed Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO)’s CEO and Managing Director Ahmed Shamaah, who was later appointed as a state minister at the Fisheries Ministry.

Housing Development Corporation (HDC)’s Chairman Ahmed Zuhoor was also dismissed by the president yesterday.
