President observes Maldives-Sri Lanka volleyball match

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on late Tuesday spectated a friendly volleyball match played at the Social Centre between the national teams of Maldives and Sri Lanka.

The match attracted a large audience of Maldivians and Sri Lankans, who came together at the venue to watch in the spirit of international friendship.

The Sri Lankan team was successful on this occasion, winning 3 sets to 1.

The President subsequently presented a special Award of Appreciation from Maldives Volleyball Association to former member of Maldives National Volleyball Team Ahmed Abdul Kareem. Kareem was awarded the 'Shield' to commemorate his countless contributions to the sport.

President Solih also signed Kareem's jersey from the recent Indian Ocean Island Games.

The Sri Lankan National Volleyball team is currently visiting Maldives upon the invitation of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment.

The friendly match was played in preparation for the upcoming Central Zone Competition, due to be held in Nepal.
