Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) has stressed the importance of reinforcing national security, vowing to implement independent institutions and ensure that he will bring their technology up to date should he win the upcoming elections.
While speaking at Hoarafushi at a campaign stop amidst his Haa Alifu atoll canvass, Ibu strongly emphasized the urgency to strengthen the National Security of Maldives.
However, Ibu added that he will be revealing the details of the policy for National Security only upon his contingent victory in the upcoming elections. Ibu assured that this policy will provide security to all sectors.
"All designated institutions of national security, as well as the passing and implementation of laws, will be made independent from the government, without any political agendas", said Ibu.
Furthermore, Ibu pledged the security of the investments of Maldives as well as economic development should the opposition coalition win the upcoming election.
Strategies to strengthen the National Security:
- Enhancing the technical capabilities of the police and military forces.
- Establishing state of the art means for technology.
- Establishing special equipment to inspect the seas of Maldives.
- Reinforcing the Coast Guard and marine Police.
- Ceasing illegal entry of foreign vessels into Maldivian seas, as well as utilizing the import of drugs using technology.
- Establishing means to prevent and manage marine accidents.
- Eliminating the possibility of religious extremism.
Highlighting the increase of violence in President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's regime, Ibu assured the fruition of his manifesto with the help of the local people themselves.
Additionally, Ibu stated that the appointing and firing of the Commissioner of Police should not be politically motivated. He also firmly stated his plans to reduce the number of cyber crimes.
Ibu has stated the importance of reinforcing national security and pledged to bring an end to raising charges using intelligence reports.
