Defense Minister Maryia Ahmed Didi said today that the key achievement of this government is the development brought while keeping the country safe and secure despite the challenges faced.
Speaking on the occasion marking the 130th anniversary of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the country's first female Defense Minister emphasized that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has given top priority to the military sector in the country's development.
The Minister said that the President is committed to the progress, development and welfare of MNDF.
The Minister said that the last four years of the government have been the most peaceful period the Maldives has experienced since the introduction of a multi-party system in 2008.
"It is an undeniable fact that since the introduction of a multi-party democratic system in 2008 and the subsequent transition to democracy, the people of Maldives have not experienced a greater sense of peace and tranquility than in the past four years and five months," Mariya said.
In describing the expansion of MNDF activities and programs to islands across the country as part of a non-discrimination policy, Mariya stated that the government does not differentiate between small and large islands when it comes to development. She added that the government is also working to establish more military bases throughout the country.
The Minister emphasized that the government prioritizes maintaining the highest standard of professionalism in MNDF services, keeping the actions of the military in a manner that will earn the love and respect of citizens.
