President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that he will talk to former President Mohamed Nasheed, who contested the primary, to move forward together in the presidential election.
After winning the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP)'s presidential primary by a huge margin, the President told Mihaaru News that he would "talk to everyone".
President Solih said he was satisfied with the victory he had achieved today. But, at the same time, he said the party had also suffered losses in the primary.
"In fact, the primary is not necessary. It has been made very clear," he said.
"We have suffered great losses, great difficulties," he said.
The two candidates have been campaigning for the MDP primary for nearly a month. While the party has been divided into two factions, both candidates have been criticising each other during the course of the campaign. Nasheed had earlier said that he will not move forward with President Solih even if he loses the election, and would "stay at home".
