The Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes, on Monday, publicised the temporary list of applicants for the Civil Service Employees category, under the Hiyaa Public Housing Scheme.

Per the committee, the list contains the names of the state institutions in which applicants reported to be working at during the time of application submission. Therefore, the committee noted that the list would reflect previous ministry names despite the formation of new ministries and changes brought to the names of some institutions.

The Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes also stated that the temporary list detailed point allocation as per guidelines followed by the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure at that time.

The criteria included the employee's respective contributions and any educational qualifications earned prior to January 15, 2018.

Any applicants that leave their job before receiving the keys to the flat will be subject to disqualification under the housing ministry's guidelines.

Additionally, married couples will only be provided a single housing unit even both the husband and wife qualify for the housing.

Any individual that wishes to dispute the list can submit their complaints via the official 'Hiyaa Complaints Portal' at hcp.presidency.gov.mv before the deadline of 1500 hrs on 03rd January 3, 2021.

The committee has already publicised the temporary lists for housing categories allotted for doctors and nurses (H4), teachers (H5), single parents (H6), married people between the ages of 18 to 40 (H7), residents of capital Male' (H8), long-time residents of Male' that are not registered in or own property in the capital city (H9), and persons with disabilities and their families (H10).

Initiated during the government of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, the Hiyaa Project comprises the development of 7,000 flats, in the form of 16 towers of 25-storeys each, in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale's second phase.

Although the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) administration had issued a list of recipients, allegations of corruption and unjust distribution prompted the current government to form a committee to probe the issue and release a revised list.

Over 25,000 people were reported to have initially applied to purchase flats from the Hiyaa project.
