Maldives Police Service revealed on Monday night that five individuals were injured when a ferry of Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) collided with a speedboat.
Police confirmed that the victims who sustained injuries were receiving treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). However, authorities did not reveal details on the nature and severity of the injuries.
According to Police, the accident took place around 2230hrs by the breakwater of airport island Hulhule'.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) disclosed that the ferry was travelling from Hulhule' to the reclaimed suburb of Hulhumale', carrying 13 tourists from Velana International Airport (VIA).
Both the MACL ferry and speedboat were taken under Police custody and the matter is currently under investigation.
