Education Ministry of Maldives has revealed that it has received 790 applications from parents requesting student transfers to schools in Malé from local islands.
The Ministry opened up application for school transfers from both other islands and also within Malé schools as well as to newly join grade 1 in Malé schools ahead of the new academic year set to start on 26th May.
While the the opportunity to send in applications is still open, the deadline to send in the requests is 2:00 pm this coming Tuesday. The Ministry said that all forms received prior to the deadline will receive a response before next Monday.
According to the statistics revealed so far, 2,290 forms have been submitted to newly join the first grade of schools in the Malé area. An additional 1,450 forms have been received by the Ministry to enter other grades in the same area, while 660 requests have been put in to exchange schools within the Malé as well.
Out of all these forms, 790 were transfer requests to Malé schools from other schools within the country, the Ministry said.
According to the finalised academic calendar, the new academic year will end on 6th March, 2025. The annual academic holidays will commence on 9th March and last until 3rd April, 2025.
