In a press conference held by the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, Deputy Minister Ismail Naveen stated that a case related to the National Drug Agency (NDA) was under investigation.

Police are investigating a case involving senior employees of the agency and others who are allegedly involved in the manipulation of treatment assessment results through tests conducted by the NDA laboratory. They are further believed to have falsified documentation certifying completion of treatment despite the individuals not having completed the required course of treatment.

"It is alleged that individuals who were supposed to complete the treatment were falsely deemed as not needing to complete it. The duration of their treatment was shortened, and they were released into society. A significant amount of money was laundered by misusing their positions of influence to collect substantial bribes from those who were required to complete their treatment," Naveen said.

Naveen said that the police launched an investigation into the case on February 6 based on information they had received.

He said the police have now searched the residences of the two suspects and the NDA's premises in Male' City.

"Police have seized documents and some electronic equipment necessary for the investigation," Naveen added.

Details of the case were not disclosed in today's press conference. However, a special press conference will be held next Sunday to provide details of the NDA case, he said.

During a meeting with the Ministry of Homeland Security last December, NDA's CEO Imad Solih mentioned that there was a backlog of 700 individuals sentenced to community treatment by the drug court since 2018.

Imad stated then that the 700 people in the queue would be provided with treatment within four months.
