Maldives faced defeat in both of their group stage matches in the Asia Cricket Council (ACC) Men's Challenger Cup on Tuesday, dashing their hopes of advancing to the semi-finals.

The opening match, held against Singapore on Friday, ended in a 41-run loss. In the subsequent match against Japan, played on the following day, Maldives suffered a 42-run defeat.

Opting to bat first, Japan scored 150 for eight in 20 overs. In response, the Maldives team was bowled out for 108 in 18.4 overs. Adam Umar was the top scorer with 40 runs off 26 balls.

In the first match against Singapore, Maldives won the toss and chose to bat, posting a score of 199 for four in 20 overs. Ibrahim Hassan, who secured two wickets against Japan, also claimed two wickets in the initial match. He dismissed Surendran Chandramohan, who scored 82 runs for Singapore.

Ismail Ali delivered the highest score for Maldives against Singapore, contributing 33 runs off 17 balls.

Throughout both matches, the opening partnership featured young batsman Ibrahim Shauf Hasan alongside the seasoned batsman Adam Umar.

Maldives is set to face Thailand in their final group match tomorrow. The team has secured wins in their last two encounters against Thailand.

Following the Challenger Cup, the national team will participate in a series in Thailand, competing against Saudi Arabia and Bhutan in addition to the host country.
