Major General (retired) Wais Waheed has replaced Brigadier General (retired) Zakariyya Mansoor as the Director General of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).
Zakariyya joined the army in 1984 and retired with honors on December 9, 2021, after 37 years. He has since remained as the head of the NCTC.
However, with the new government assuming office on November 17, 2023, Zakariyya was removed from his post, as confirmed by him to Mihaaru News.
Wais Waheed, who was appointed as the head of the NCTC, retired on December 12 after 34 years of service.
During his tenure at NCTC, the previous government also appointed Zakariyya as the Chairman of the company that operates the Laamu atoll Kadhdhoo Airport.
NCTC falls under the Ministry of Defense and is tasked with studying terror cases and taking action against them.
Zakariyya left the NCTC after serving the government for over 39 years.
