The Volleyball Association has officially announced the upcoming elections for the positions of president, vice-presidents, and other board members to fulfill the remaining one-year term of the current Executive Committee (Exco).

As per a recent notification, the VAM has outlined that, in accordance with the association's newly enacted constitution, individuals elected to fill the vacant Exco positions will serve for the remainder of the ongoing term, concluding on April 1, 2024. This procedural adjustment has received approval from the Office of the Commissioner of Sports.

The last round of VAM elections took place in April 2021 when Mohamed Ranesh assumed the presidency. However, Ranesh, who is a pilot, recently resigned from his position as President and relocated to Abu Dhabi after securing a new job with an airline.

Under the revised basic rules, the Exco comprises 15 members, including six vice-presidents. There are six positions for a general secretary, treasurer, and other Exco members.

The VAM currently holds two vice-presidents, Abdulla Nasheed (Ablo) and Ali Ashraf (Ashra). As per the VAM's statement, the five members elected as Exco members in the April 2021 elections will continue their roles under the new constitution.

"All the elected members of the Governing Committee of the Association, chosen on April 1, 2021, have received unanimous approval from the General Meeting of the Association convened on February 5, 2024. A smooth transition has taken place," stated the VAM.

VAM stated that any vacant positions resulting from committee resignations under the new basic rules or any other reasons will require the election of a new member within 30 days through a congress meeting. The deadline for applications for these posts is March 10.
