T Rex BC has won the National Basketball League, getting the title by overcoming the reigning champions, Kings BC, who had held the crown for three consecutive years, despite T Rex's loss in their last match.
In the final match at the Indoor Court of the Social Centre on Monday, Trex BC suffered a narrow defeat with a score of 49-48. Kings Captain Abdulla Amzar Mohamed played a pivotal role in leading his team to victory.
T Rex's sole league defeat occurred in this final match, as the six-team league had previously defeated Kings 79-61 in the first round, marking the only loss for Kings throughout the tournament.
Although Trex and Kings were tied on points at the league's summit, the winner was determined based on head-to-head results. The Kings needed to secure a victory with a 19-point margin to retain the league title.
However, T Rex's one-point victory meant that Kings could not defend their championship.
In addition to Trex and Kings, the league featured Redwings BC, Raptors, Royals, and Stingers. Alongside Trex and Kings, Redwings secured the third position, while the Raptors, finishing fourth, qualified for the national tournament.
The men's division of the national basketball championship is set to commence tonight.
