President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Monday night, declared that a new housing project in capital Male’ will be announced soon.
Speaking at the campaign rally of Maafannu Uthuru MP Imthiyaz Fahmy, the president pledged to offer the citizens of Male’ better living conditions.
However, he did not provide further details on the project.
At the gathering held at Aminiya School, President Solih said that the capital city currently possesses characteristics one would rather not see from a society they wish to inhabit. He mentioned issues such as the lack of living space and traffic congestion, adding that improving those conditions was one of his campaign pledges, and he would work towards fulfilling them in the coming five years.
“Making Male’ a clean, adequate environment was one of our pledges. Changes will be brought about soon,” promised the president at the gathering, which was also attended by Vice President Faisal Naseem.
The president claimed that all operations taking place at the business district can be transferred to the landfill island of Thilafushi, and prominent changes will be made to the area.
He also asserted the fact that he came into power from a government coalition, and urged everyone to keep that in mind.
President Solih also acknowledged the fact that his party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), had faced numerous difficulties in the past four years, and indicated the importance of the dedication shown by Imthiyaz Fahmy, Ahmed Shahid, MDP Chairperson Hassan Latheef, MDP Vice President Mohamed Shifaz, and MDP's president for Thimarafushi constituency Anwar Ibrahim, during that time.
