Vice President Faisal Naseem on Tuesday, visited Kalhuvakaru Mosque and inspected the progress made towards relocating the historic structure.
During the site visit, VP Naseem inquired about the development and procedures of relocation work from officials of Ministry of Arts Culture and Heritage.
The relocation and restoration of Kalhuvakaru mosque to the Sultan Park area follow recommendations by the cabinet, where it can be well-monitored and portray the Maldivian historical legacy.
Reassembling the mosque, which was dismantled by the former government, was a pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during his election campaign.
Prior to its dismantling, Kalhu Vakaru Miskiyy was located in a corner of the demolished grounds of a 16th century Royal Palace. The grounds had been developed into the historic 'Sultan Park' in 1968 after the Maldives ended its sultanate.
After discussions with the Cabinet, earlier this year, President Solih made the decision to relocate to the grounds of Sultan Park.
In addition to visiting the relocation site, VP Naseem also visited and toured the National Museum and inspected the status of the building. He checked on the work of the National Archives as well.
