A Media Official from the Ministry of Health stated that a patient needing emergency medical treatment was transferred from Dhaalu Atoll Kuda Huvadhoo to Male' in the sea plane air ambulance today.
The seaplane was in operation by last Friday, and this is the first patient transfer conducted with it.
National Air Ambulance Service was launched on March 1. A Dornier flight from Maldivian has been repurposed for use in this service. Additionally, the government decided to use a seaplane as well in this service so as to ensure service is swiftly provided even to patients residing in islands which do not have airports.
In a statement released last Friday, Maldivian revealed that to that day, 25 medical trips had been conducted.
The seaplane being used as an air ambulance is of the model DHC-6 Twin Otter.
