Nasrullah Ahmed, a Maldivian runner who has participated in the most number of marathons, is set to compete in three European marathons within three consecutive weeks next month.
His marathon numbers 83, 84 and 85 will be running in marathons held in Oslo, Norway, Berlin, Germany.
Nasrullah will compete in the Oslo Marathon on April 17. Seven days later, he will compete in the Berlin Marathon on April 25. He will be running Germany's Cologne Marathon on October 2.
Training is usually required during recovery mode for six months between each marathon. But Nasrullah said he has previously competed in three marathons in three consecutive weeks. He has run three marathons in Thailand and Singapore within those three weeks.
Nasrullah, who works at Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), said that his marathon career is all due to the support of MNDF.
"Marathon runs in the Maldives aren't as popular nowadays but have been revived by MNDF and MNDF clubs. The reason for the slow down of the number of marathon runs was due to the heavy load of work during training and high costs," Nasrullah said.
He had also donated the 80th Victory Marathon medal to Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi.
Nasrullah who started his running career from the 1999 MTCC marathon held in Male' City has marked his 12th year being a marathon runner last year. His most special year of running in a marathon was 2018. He ran 13 marathons that year. He also completed all 13 marathons under four hours.
