Amendments have been made to the Hafiz Examination Policy allowing persons who have memorized the Quran to undergo revision assessments at the island of residence itself as opposed to traveling to Male' as previously mandated.
The Hafiz Examination Policy has been altered to allow people who have memorized the Quran to revise from their island of residence.
The former policy stipulates that anyone who memorizes the Quran must travel to Male' City (the capital of Maldives located in Kaafu atoll) and recite it to a person or committee designated by the National Centre for the Holy Quran run under the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
However, the amended Hafiz Examination Policy announced last Thursday had changed this mandate, allowing assessments of persons who have memorized the Quran in a local island to be conducted on the island itself. The alteration now mandates trips to Male' solely to sit at the examinations.
Moreover, the amendment further recognizes individuals who have memorized the Quran at the Islamic University of Maldives and completes the Hafiz examination at the university as Hafizes without undergoing any additional exams.
The altered policy additionally mandates that revision assessments for students who memorizes the Quran while attending a class registered under the National Center will be arranged once a request is lodged either to the committee designated by the National Quran Centre or the Centre itself.
Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed stated that significant alleviations will be facilitated with these alterations to the examination policy.
