Since President Dr Mohamed Muizzu took office, 3,322 expatriates have been deported under various cases, Maldives Immigration said last night.
Immigration reported that between November 17 last year and last Sunday, 257 locations associated with expatriates were raided. Among those deported are a significant number of undocumented expatriates and individuals with incomplete documentation.
The deportations also included individuals involved in large-scale prostitution rings over the past nine months.
Additionally, some expatriates were arrested for preparing food in unsanitary conditions for commercial purposes in Malé City, leading to the closure of their establishments.
Home Minister Ali Ihusan and Immigration Controller Mohamed Shamaan Waheed have both emphasized that President Muizzu is prioritizing efforts to address the issue of undocumented expatriates in the Maldives. This operation is the largest ever conducted to target expatriates living illegally in the country.
