Criminal Court has sentenced an individual to 12 years in prison for sexually abusing a minor.
The convict, a resident of Raa atoll Maakurath, was sentenced under the Special Provisions Act to Deal with Child Sex Abuse Offenders.
Upon arrest, the individual was found to be in possession of pornographic material on his mobile device and was charged with possession of such material. However, the court's verdict stated that these charges were not proven against him.
The court has not disclosed details of the case due to the involvement of a minor. The case was forwarded to the court for prosecution in 2021.
