President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has declared today that two uninhabited islands in the lagoons of Noonu atoll Maafaru are now under the island's jurisdiction.
The decision was announced through a resolution signed by the President today.
Under this resolution, the islands of Farumuli and Kandimmahuraa are now under the jurisdiction of Maafaru.
A total of 80 hectares, including these two islands, was removed from Maafaru's jurisdiction in 2020 during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration.
At the time, Maafaru Council had appealed to the government to revise the decision and return the two islands to Maafaru.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has recently stated that arrangements will be made to assign uninhabited islands to nearby residential islands on requests from councils.
